by INMETRO
SINMETRO/IFBQ Seal - Quality for the market, safety for the consumer.
As of May ’04, is effective the INMETRO/IFBQ Seal - Equipment
Certificate for Water Quality Improvement, a new quality indicator
created by INMETRO in order to guarantee to the consumer products
in accordance with NBR 14908:2004 standards. It is a volunteer
certification to all products within the human consumption water
improvement field - filters, purifiers, drinking machines or fountains,
ozone spreaders, etc. - regulated by NBR 14908:2004
"The IFBQ - Instituto Falcão Bauer da Qualidade (Falcão
Bauer Quality Institute) - is qualified by INMETRO and works as
administrator on the certifying process taking care of technical
visit schedules, sending products to laboratories, checking analysis
and results, and license for the INMETRO/IFBQ brand”, explains
Eduardo Rodrigues dos Santos, Product Technical Coordinator. “It
is a classified process, takes around 6 weeks and we provide consultancy
in all certification steps. The consumer gets a better quality
and the manufacturer improves productive process, reduces waste
and production cost”.
Characteristics:
Having three pads (Escutcheons), the INMETRO/IFBQ seal carries
the inscription “Certificação Aparelhos para
Melhoria da Água" (Equipment Certificate for Water
Quality Improvement) and the INMETRO and IFBQ logos. On the first
pad the model, code, manufacturer and product brand will be shown.
The second pad shows “Mandatory Tests”, presenting
the tests for Hydrostatic Pressure, Microbiological Level, and
Extractible Determination.
The third pad, Qualifying Tests, is preceded by the text Efficiency
Verification, gathering Particles Retention, Free Chlorine Reduction,
and Bacteriological Efficiency, through which the consumer will
find specific information on product characteristics; the text
ends with "Os ensaios foram realizados de acordo com a NBR
14908:2004". (Tests performed in accordance with NBR 14908:2004)
“The seal shall become a Standard, as is happens in other
segments”, explains Moacyr Domingues, the ABRAFIPA President.
“Besides to benefits the consumer, it complies with INMETRO
demands for market regulation and provides the sector’s
self supported growth”
Understand the qualifying tests.
Particles retention: capacity to detain solids, qualified on
levels: P-I (> or = 0.5 a < 1); P-II (> or = 1 to <
5 ); P-III (> or = 5 to <15 ); P-IV (> or = 15 to <
30); P-V (> or = 30 to < 50); and P-VI (> or = 50 to
< 80). One micron corresponds to a thousandth of a millimeter.
Free Chlorine Reduction: capacity to reduce chlorine at the end
of the useful life of the product water. The chlorine quantity
on the aging for the test is 20 mg/l approximately twice bigger
than the quantity used in the city’s distribution net.
Qualifying: C-I (over 75%); C-II (74.9 to 50%); and C-III (49.9
to 25%).
Bacteriological Efficiency: detain, reduces or expels bacteria,
within specific standards.
Qualifying: "Aprovado" (Approved) or "hyphen"
for those who don’t perform the function.
